As most of you are aware from my excess of Instagram posts, I am completely finished at The University of Brighton – graduated and all!
Graduation was wonderful day, even having to wear those heavy black gowns in the middle of the 2018 heatwave didn’t bother me as I’d waited for this day for so long. So many proud parents and happy graduands filled the Brighton promenade and the atmosphere was incredible in the ceremony. The whole day was a whirlwind of emotions for me as I find it so hard to let go of things I’ve enjoyed so much and move away from places that have given me so many memories, but celebrating with my coursemates and friends made me realise every tedious day in the university library and the endless coffee shop work dates were all worth it for the feeling I got walking across that stage.
So… What’s next?
I’m so happy to say that I have been accepted to study my Masters in Creative Advertising at Solent University! I’ve been looking into the course since my second year of uni and debated the pros and cons of doing a masters so many times, but it definitely seemed like the best step for me after graduating. Although I loved uni, I had a love hate relationship with the course I was on (I think most people do to be honest) and I felt as though in some aspects it hadn’t prepared me for the type of career I wanted.
I’ve always found myself to be quite creative which was what frustrated me when my course offered little creative modules. Obviously, I looked hard into the course before I started but the ratio of production to theory wasn’t what was reflected to me via open days/course prospectuses. I have triple checked my module specs and also I know the reputation Solent has for its production based courses, so I am so excited to start this course in September and start to learn the ropes of the advertising industry.
Although I considered going straight into the working world, I was looking at job descriptions of positions I loved but did not have the relevant experience to even apply. I did apply to a few mainly in marketing but standing out from the crowd is so much harder than you think its going to be. I was possibly setting my sights to high as we all have to start off somewhere but my decision to continue onto postgraduate study made me excited, whereas finding a job in a field I wasn’t particularly keen on didn’t.
So now my graduation picture sits proudly on the mantlepiece even though the novelty of being a graduate is slowly starting to wear off. September is fast approaching, new stationary has been purchased and my course reading list has made its way into my inbox, so I am preparing myself to do it all over again!
Have any of you graduated this summer? What are your plans?

I have always openly talked about my university experience on here as I really believe it’s shaped me into the person I am today and love reading other people’s uni themed posts. So I’m going to start my own little series called ‘university series’ (soooo original) on my blog. Throughout September I will be uploading posts all themed around the topic of university. I have some drafted up but if there’s anything, in particular, you’d like me to cover, leave me a comment down below!
