I’ve always struggled with my skin in winter, as most people probably do. It’s important to change up your routine with the seasons as the weather can really damage your skin just as it can in the summer. In the winter months, the low humidity dries out your skin and harsh soaps strip away your natural oils. So today I thought I’d share some of the products that I’ve incorporated into my skincare routine for this time of year.
I’m probably not alone here, but shaving my legs in the winter just doesn’t make sense to me unless I have an event or I’m planning to wear something other than jeans of course! I’m still loving my Wilkinson Sword two-way razor for when I need to shave them quickly, but as the weather at this time is so harsh, I’ve tried to keep this to a minimum. I think moving into the summer months I will look into using an epilator, as this method is more long-lasting and will save me shaving every few days. So many people have recommended this method of hair removal to me, so I’m keen to give it a go. I’ve got my eye on a Panasonic epilator that I might treat myself to when the weather gets a little bit better!
Keeping it simple, my go-to body lotion for years and when I say years I literally mean forever is any of the Body Shop Body Butters. I’m currently using the Wild Argan Oil butter but over the year’s I’ve tried them all. They make my skin feel hydrated and soft almost instantly after applying. The coconut one always reminds me of going on holiday and I know it’s my mums favourite one too. She even has a personalised one with a picture of my face on it! These body butters are relatively inexpensive and their thick texture means a little goes a long way so you won’t feel you’re constantly running out.
I ALWAYS struggle with my eyes at this time of year. Although, this winter I have been relatively *lucky*. Lucky in the sense that I didn’t wake up on multiple occasions with swollen eyelids… I tried everything and spoke to every chemist I could find to help me with the dry skin on my eyelids until eventually, a lovely lady in boots suggested I tried the La Roche- Posay Toleriane Ultra Eye Cream for sensitive skin and it worked miracles. I’ve repeatedly purchased this product for the last year and a half and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Also, PSA, La Roche-Posay’s suncream range is ideal for people that suffer from sensitive skin as they have creams that are especially for your face.
This one is a new product for me but so far so good, it’s the Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve. It’s not tacky and dries super quickly, so it’s perfect for multiple uses each day.
As most of you will know, if you follow me on Instagram, I’ve been loving my Dermalogica skincare routine. Specifically the Precleanse, Special Cleansing Gel and Skin Smoothing Cream have been my saviours this winter. The most important thing about my routine at this time of year is that I don’t use all three products every day. I will always use the Skin Smoothing Cream as a moisturiser but sometimes being too harsh on your skin, and using too many products strips away that natural oils, which causes dry skin. It’s important to be gentle to your skin at this time of year, so sometimes I will just use one or the other unless I feel my skin needs both.
I love to treat myself to a face mask every now and again, my favourite for hydration is the Bobbi Brown Skin Nourish Mask. It’s ideal as it can be used several times a week and it’s lightweight so I often wear it overnight to give my skin a smoother, plumper look in the morning.
Probably the least glamorous item mentioned in this post… Nivea All Purpose Body Creme. It’s cheap and cheerful and honestly, the best thing I use on my lips, it’s been a part of my routine since I was about 13. Every morning I pop some on while I do my make up and let it soak in and moisturise my lips throughout my morning routine.
What products do you use at this time of year?
